How It All Started
Bestbier Sawmills began as a small-scale hobby venture with a simple goal: to build practical, reliable sawmilling equipment. What started as a modest operation soon revealed significant potential, leading to further investment in business development and engineering expertise.
The company initially operated from the small town of Trompsburg in the southern Free State, a region best known for sheep farming. From these humble beginnings, the business laid the foundation for what would become a respected name in sawmill manufacturing.
From Hobby Business to International Competitor
Over time, Bestbier expanded its product range and steadily built a reputation for producing durable and efficient portable sawmills. As demand grew, the company established itself as a leading local manufacturer while gradually entering international markets.
After five successful years in Trompsburg, the business relocated to Bloemfontein in 2010. The move provided better access to skilled labour, suppliers, and infrastructure, creating new opportunities for growth and innovation.
Bestbier Today
Today, Bestbier is recognised for its commitment to quality engineering and practical solutions for the forestry and agricultural sectors. The company has supplied more than 300 sawmill units across South Africa and exports equipment to several countries, including Eswatini, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Siberia, and Canada.
Operations are structured around two main divisions:
Sawmilling
Swing-blade sawmills, circular arbor resaws, and double log edgers designed for efficiency and durability.
Agri
Pull-graders, custom-built cultivators, and tillers developed to meet the needs of modern agriculture.
Innovation remains central to the company’s philosophy, with ongoing research, design, and development focused on delivering reliable, high-performance equipment to customers both locally and internationally.

The Beginning
Established in 2005, Bestbier began its operations from a humble farm shed in Trompsburg, laying the foundation for what would become a trusted name in agricultural equipment.

In 2010, Bestbier recognised the need for expanded facilities and closer proximity to its key suppliers, leading to the relocation of the business to Bloemfontein.

Expanding our Horizons
In 2017, Bestbier expanded its operations by acquiring the CLAAS dealership, further strengthening its position in the agricultural machinery market.

In 2019, Bestbier again recognised the need for expanded facilities, leading to the relocation of the business to Ferreira on the outskirts of Bloemfontein.

20 Year Birthday
Bestbier SA celebrated its 20th anniversary with an open evening event, inviting customers, suppliers, and employees to join in the celebration. The occasion highlighted some of our well-known and popular machines, showcasing the innovation and quality that define our brand.
